About Marla Helton
After 25 years as a nationally recognized artist and teacher, Marla found a growing passion for healthy living through yoga. This passion grew stronger when she lost her husband to cancer in 2003. Marla felt the mind, body, and breath connection in yoga brought her the balance and healing she had been searching for.
So began her journey towards opening her own studio in 2012. Located in rural Indiana, Serendipity Yoga Studio provides a space to share the enriched awareness of self and the potency of that connection to nourish and heal the mind and body.
In addition to teaching at her studio, Marla teaches weekly classes at DePauw University, as well as various other workshops and local and international retreats throughout the year.
Certifications & Experience
After practicing yoga for over 15 years and finding a growing desire to share it with others Marla found herself at a beautiful ashram in the mountains of Colorado where she completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training at Shoshoni. Classically trained in Shambava yoga, Marla enjoys learning about all disciplines of yoga and combines them to fit her own unique style of teaching. With over 500 hours of teacher training, her primary focus is on functional yoga for all ages.
Marla has studied lyengar with Maty Ezraty, yoga as therapy with Doug Keller, and functional anatomy with Ray Long. With a passion for learning and exploring, Marla is a life long student! The journey never ends!
